SETAC PNC Board Elections 2023

For the 2023 - 2024 year we have up-to four (4) general board member and one (1) student representative positions in need to be filled. We are looking for interested members, who are willing to donate a few hours of their time every month for the benefit of the SETAC PNC Chapter and its membership.

Ensuring that the PNC boards represents the true diversity of our chapter is of paramount importance to us. As such, we particularly encourage women and members self-identifying as belonging to underrepresented minorities to apply.

Duties of the members of the Board

  • Attend and participate in Board conference calls (~1 hour call quarterly)

  • Participate in the organization of events and committees (e.g. Annual General Meeting and Short Courses).

  • Asist on the assessment of nominations for various awards.

  • Assist, when required, in the regular duties of the Board of Directors.

  • Maintain SETAC PNC membership for the duration of their 3-year term (members at large) or 2-year (student representative).

Student Representative to the Board Possition

This is a two-year commitment wherein the successful applicant will assume the position of student representative to the PNC board, and then transition to the PNC representative to NASAC, SETAC’s North American Student Advisory Council.

In addition to the general duties of all Board Members listed above, the duties of the student representative to the board are to assist with the maintenance of the PNC website (post announcements, details about the upcoming PNC AGM, etc.), aid in the coordination and planning of PNC’s annual meeting, and to fill other roles as required.

During this time the successful applicant will also learn about their upcoming role as the PNC representative to NASAC, and ultimately assume this role in their second year. The duties of the PNC representative to NASAC will be similar in scope to those of the PNC student position but will instead be directed toward the coordination with SETAC North America Meeting and will also include training the incoming student board member for their role as PNC representative to NASAC.

Ideally the interested candidate is planning to attend the SETAC North America Meeting during the year that they will act as the PNC representative to NASAC – this is currently scheduled to be held 20–24 October 2024, in Fort Worth, Texas, USA.

Nomination process

In order to be considered for nomination, each nominee must:

  • Be a member in good standing (i.e., have paid their yearly dues in full at the time of nomination). Note: If unsure of your membership status, please contact us.

  • Provide a short biography (no more than 1/2 page) telling us a little about yourself and your interest in being a Board member. Please note that the biography will be distributed to the membership for voting and should the nominee be elected, it may be posted on the SETAC PNC website.

Biographies must be submitted by May 19th, 2023.

Election process

Once the nominations have been collected and approved by the Board of Directors, all members in good standing (i.e. who have paid their dues for the current year) will be invited to cast their vote via an online survey.

All active members will be invited to vote for the general board members, while only student members will receive invitation to vote for the student position.

Elections will be open for one week via website voting (e.g., SurveyMonkey).

Deadlines

  • Nominations: May 8th – May 19th, 2023

  • Elections: May 22th – May 26th, 2023

All candidates will be informed on the results of the elections after completion of the election process. Announcement of the newly elected Board members will be made to the entire membership at the AGM in June as well as via email and on the website.
